About Me

In my early years as a Christian, I held the notion that I could live and serve as a committed believer even without taking up full-time Christian vocation. Later at age 33, I sensed this burden weighing heavily in my heart and spirit - i.e. the Lord's call upon my life to prepare myself for a full-time Christian vocation. Of course, I struggled with this quite a bit. Eventually, I submitted to the Lord's call upon my life. I left my profession as a dental therapist to prepare myself for a full-time Christian vocation in teaching and training God's people in God's Word.

Today, I am an ordained minister in Singapore, holding earned degrees from the Baptist Theological Seminary of Singapore (BTh), Singapore Bible College (MDiv), and University of Pretoria in South Africa (PhD in Practical Theology).

At present, I have moved into a different ministry season and focus - i.e. being engaged in an itinerant ministry of equipping, teaching and preaching both in Singapore and beyond (mainly in Myanmar). During my past season of full-time vocational ministry (1986-2012), I had taught in three major seminaries and pastored two Baptist churches in Singapore.

My core values in life and ministry are spelt out in the credo below:

  1. I believe in committing myself to serve God primarily in the areas of my gifting - i.e. edifying and equipping God's people with and in His Word.

  2. I believe in excelling for God's glory by doing my best, and encouraging and challenging others to do the same.

  3. I believe in the dignity of people, and uphold this belief by empowering people rather than exploiting them.

  4. I believe in leading my family by encouraging my wife and children to grow as much as possible to their God-given potential.

  5. I believe in redeeming time by resting in God without becoming restless in goal-chasing.

I measure myself not by what I’ve done for God in my gifting, but what He has done for me in His grace. I hope to be known and remembered by people this way:

"Here is a man whose life is not perfect, but he lives it without regret because he has been true to his God, to his loved ones, to others, and to himself.”

I am married to Iris and we worship at the Evangel Baptist Church. We are blessed with two grown-up daughters, Vera and Stacey.

I am a rugby fan, but not a rugby player! My favourite teams are the All Blacks of New Zealand and the Springboks of South Africa.

About John Yuen Ministry

The motto of John Yuen Ministry (JYM) is to “Edify God’s Saints, Equip God’s Servants”. It encapsulates the calling of God upon my life and my passion to be true to it.

The means to fulfil this two-fold purpose are reflected in the elements of the JYM logo - the Cross, Open Bible, and Dove - respectively signifying Christ as Lord, the Bible as Foundation, and the Holy Spirit as Enabler.

It is my prayer that the content of this website will help instruct and inspire God’s people towards higher heights of spiritual maturity and ministry in the Lord.
